Gertie....(working title for full size ships figurehead).
Gertie was started before 2017, when I was asked by a guy who had turned a boat into a home, if I could carve a figure head to go on the prow. He supplied a trailer load of demolition Totara for the task, but it was very dry and brittle, which extended the time I needed to complete her.I laminated the timber sections together, but there were many non carving periods when I went away muttering and wondering why I had taken on such a huge task. All carved by hand.....(aaaargh...)
5 Pieces of much loved Pohutukawa that had to be felled in School Grounds, to make room for new classroom. The school children came up with a 'wish list' as did their teachers, and pretty well most of those wishes were incorporated.
