Slideshow

The Slideshow shows stages of the Community Carving project which was funded by Rodney Local Board (Thankyou!). Having done these projects before in the Uk, I persuaded Rodney that this was a way of getting seating, at the same time as making  training in a new skill available for those who were interested and enabling the local people to make something for their community. We found in the UK that these projects often became catalysts for regenerating communities that for various reasons had lost their cohesiveness.
The designs evolved as we went, and it was exciting and rewarding to see the volunteers confidence grow as they realised they were creative, Also, as their confidence grew, they took ownership and more and more made suggestions about what more could be added.
Each bench has many images applied that weave a story, which has been designed to reveal itself to the curious viewer.
It is delightful to discover that they have become favourite spots to linger whilst walking by many locals.
